Paths, forks, and your map

AlterPath talks about stories like journeys. Here’s what you’ll see while you play—and how those ideas fit together once you’ve finished a few paths.

Path

A path is a short interactive story or choice survey. You open it, move through scenes, and finish with an ending shaped by what you chose along the way. Think of it as one complete adventure you can finish in a few minutes.

Paths vary in tone. Some are playful. Some ask you to sit with a hard decision. All of them are designed so your forks matter—the next scene is not the same for every player.

Fork

A fork is a moment where you decide. Speak up or stay quiet. Go left or go right. Each fork changes what you see next. Play the same path again with different choices and you may land somewhere new.

Forks are the heart of the experience. They’re also great to talk about with friends: “Wait—you picked that?” Comparing forks is often how people get hooked on playing together.

Your map

Your map is the collection of routes you’ve already walked. It grows every time you finish a path. Come back later to revisit favorites, try another ending, or see how far you’ve explored.

The map is personal. It isn’t a scoreboard. It’s a record of stories you’ve lived through in the app—useful when you want to replay, share, or simply remember where a choice took you.

How a session usually feels

Most sessions look like this: pick a path from Home, play through a handful of scenes, hit a few forks, and reach an ending. Then you either start another path or put the phone down. When you return, your map remembers what you’ve already done so you can branch out.

Play for curiosity

AlterPath is about trying another way and seeing what happens. You’re here for the stories—choose a path, follow your forks, and watch where they lead. If you want the step-by-step loop, read how AlterPath works. For story types, see interactive branching stories.

New players often ask whether they need to finish every path. You don’t. Skip anything that isn’t your mood. Come back when you want another fork. The map only grows with what you choose to finish—there’s no penalty for browsing and picking what looks fun tonight.
